back to the overview
Gonçalo Castelbranco presented his debut album as part of the Há Fado no Cais series on 4 July 2025 at 8:00 PM at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB).
With an aesthetic deeply rooted in traditional fado, Gonçalo Castelbranco continues the aristocratic fado tradition and presents De Noite, his debut album. At this stage of artistic maturity, the fado singer offers us a work of great poetic depth, composed of original and rarely sung poems, where the music is shaped by the poem, allowing it to unfold in its entirety.
De Noite is a faithful portrait of Gonçalo: a performer who approaches fado with historical awareness and is driven by a constant desire to create. Love, in its many dimensions, is the guiding thread of the album: passion, desire, betrayal, and melancholy coexist in a deeply personal and layered register. Among the original fados are compositions by Alain Oulmain, lyrics by João Fezas Vital, by Gonçalo Castelbranco himself, and even a poem written by his grandmother.
Born in Lisbon and deeply rooted in Cascais, Gonçalo Castelbranco built his career between fado houses and prestigious stages. Passionate about the Portuguese language and traditional melodies, he now presents an album that respects the essence of fado while expressing his own identity.
Gonçalo Castelbranco has a voice you keep coming back to. A voice made to last.
Under the high patronage of the Arenberg Foundation, the Centro Cultural de Belém, and the Fado Museum of Lisbon, with the support of the Lisbon City Council.
